FOX29 NEWS spent the morning at West Philadelphia Achievement Charter Elementary School on February 24, 2023 to help celebrate Black History Month.

students in West Philadelphia are celebrating Black History Month with projects and presentations hey good morning so we're talking all things like history and this is an opportunity for the students here at wpaces that's a really not only worried about their history but also talked about resilience and black Excellence reflected in themselves until the end is Jackson Mississippi Jackson she's with the school here talk to me about you know you're over to the correct I'm talking about the importance of making sure these kids have. I need to learn about the history of solutely eighth give the children a opportunity to promote a positive racial identity they see themselves in our curriculum they see ourselves in the work that they're doing on the day-to-day and then also gives an opportunity to really work on those 21st century skills are for they're researching and they're doing so much as for the prepare them for college and Beyond and so we're excited to really a layer the black history and as they continue to learn this year and what your mom is watching so talk to me a little bit about project because each each grade had a different kind of project write each ratio kindergarten got to learn about music I second graders got to learn about literary authors and actually our fifth graders learn about activism and some of our civil rights leaders who are she young themselves a difference in our world we have Kamala Harris featured as well and we've have like Langston Hughes of the kids really got a wide array of a project yes and so are third grade team they actually worked on inventors this year and they created their own dolls for Life-Size dolls you'll see the composite Brown Jackson our first African-American woman as his Supreme Court justice, so I really got to learn about a flood are people who are making change noticed in the past but here right now and our teachers have been so creative and ways to show and showcase our students talents and so we're just so excited and looking forward to today's celebration as well this is been all my small we've had panels for our students on entrepreneurship we've had panels on historically black colleges we have had research opportunities are going to have a black wax museum on that is coming next weekend so we have been very busy this month Black History Month awesome peanut guys I'm going to let that the cheerleaders are cheerleaders way to stop because they got a cheer for black history month so ladies you can take us away what's that what's that cheer girls Black History Month History Month Black History Month Black History Month Black History Month Black History Month Jamaican fun to learn about Black History Month and listen there is a VR only a few projects are amazing eyes and this is not to say they'll go for the for a few more days I Miss Jackson said so wpaces I'll send it back to you for sure
