Technology at WPACES

West Philadelphia Achievement Charter Elementary School  views technology as a relevant tool for learning as well as a medium for communication, inquiry and innovation in the  21st century.  WPACES strives to enhance student learning through technology and foster an academic environment and school culture that has embedded appropriate technology to support student learning across all curricular areas. 

WPACES has integrated a variety of relevant technology tools  to support and facilitate 21st century teaching and learning. These learning tools include hardware and software for student assessment, evaluation, collaborative learning, research, enrichment and remediation while remaining fully CIPA and COPPA compliant. 

 

Technology at WPACES includes technology instruction on a weekly basis for all students with a progressive scope and sequence beginning in kindergarten with basic technology operations and typing and progresses each year through 5th grade to understanding basic coding, and creating digital presentations.  Students also participate in a broadcasting process where students work with our technology teacher to create a daily school news broadcast which is played in the classroom each morning.  In addition, each classroom has access to a laptop cart for one to one computer access for students. Students utilize multiple platforms within Google Workspace, and are able to access a variety of our online resources and programs to aid in daily instruction. Students also use interactive boards to participate in engaging classroom lessons throughout the day. Many of the students integrate  technology for writing assignments, research projects and presentations in and outside of the classroom.
