Setting the Record Straight: WPACES Official Response to Online Misinformation

West Philadelphia Achievement Charter Elementary School (WPACES) is aware of an inaccurate post shared on the nogunzone Instagram page claiming that the school had “no heat at all” and that “sinks were clogged.”

These statements are false and do not reflect the facts of what occurred.

Like many organizations across the Delaware Valley, WPACES staff returned to the building on Monday, February 9, 2026, to extremely cold weather conditions that caused temporary low temperatures and frozen pipes in limited areas of the building. One classroom experienced a short disruption and students were relocated for approximately 45 minutes while the room warmed.

Our building engineers responded immediately, restoring heat and fully addressing the frozen pipes. Despite outside temperatures near 8 degrees, classrooms were quickly returned to the warm, safe, and nurturing environment WPACES has provided families for more than 25 years.

WPACES holds student safety and well-being as our highest priority.

We take seriously the unauthorized posting of student images online and will pursue accountability for anyone who compromises student safety and privacy by sharing photos without school or parental consent.

We also wish to thank the many community members and online commentators who approached the situation with common sense and offered their support. We remain committed to transparency, care, and the trust our families place in us every day.
