is by listing multiples and the other is by using prime factorization you will get the same survival a right you will get the same answer by using both strategy personally for me I like to use strategy one to meet strategy one is easier all right please let me be clear. do not always have to use prime factorization all right there's just two ways to solve how to find the least common multiple so you can either use strategy one or strategy to if you are not finished please say got it if you are not finished please say not finish all right next prime number prime number prime number is phone number greater Dan one can not be made by multiplying other whole numbers so here's my definition and here's the definition that I thought you in school all right this is the easier definition so if you want you can this is the textbook definition right here but here's my definition next to the star all right hand only be multiplied by itself and 1 alright so it can only be composite all right an example of composite numbers are 468 + 9y is 4 a composite number from Razor hand why would 4 be a composite number I mean because you can do one time for to give for you can do two times two to get for just two times too and you could do One X for a right why would 6 be a composite number different someone different 6 a composite number Milani you should be sitting up you can get two times to get six very good all right 8 4 * 2 will get you eight and 1 * 8 will get you eight all right and last but not least we just discussed it 3 times 3 will get you 9 + 9 * 1 will get you 9 in our last vocabulary word you need to know all right is factors you need to know factors Milani you need to sit all the way up nobody should be laying down in bed none of that should be happening I know Milani that you're paying attention and I cuz I see you writing but you need to be sitting up factors are the numbers you multiply together to get another number we know what factors are cuz we've been going over an example of factors would be 2 * 3 is equal to 6 what are the factors in 2 * 3 is equal to 6 in 1 shot it out what would be the factors in this multiplication problem I know a lot of people are riding and I'm moving kind of fast Craigslist 2 and 3 2 and 3 are factors 2 and 3 are factors after all this note taken we're going to get into some practice of the subjected find the LCM of 12 and 32 we're going to do the same thing all right answers to be what homegroup what should be our LCM 96 96 answer all right so when we're doing prime factorization step one I'm going to write that over here step one you have to make a factor tree not know some of y'all are going to be like what what is the factor tree like I'ma show you all what that looks like write this down I'm going to make a factor tree I right now so we know that we first got to find the multiples of 12 and 32 or a we first got it the multiples of 12 and 32 scuse me erase that and are Step 1 is find the multiples of 12 and 32 by making a factor tree that's what it should be all right find the multiples of 12 32 by making a factor tree so first I'm going to start with 12 cuz I first number is 12 so here's how I would make a factor tree we know that factors are two numbers that get so our product right here is 12 so I know that 2 * 6 would give us 12 so I'm going to put a two right here in a stick right here this is a factor tree all right now I don't Sue and sticks which one of these are prime numbers so I'm going to people are too I'm going to circle the two all right I cannot make a factor tree out of prime numbers all right make sure you write this down I'm going to Star diss UK make a factor tree with time number all right you cannot make a factor tree with prime numbers so because sticks is a composite number I'm going to make another factor tree or if you are not understanding this and it's okay you can always go back and look at the video right and I also have a me so I'm a circle 2 and 3 so my pride factorization for 12 is 2 * 322 + 3, leave that there so now I got to find multiples of 32 I got to find the factors whatever factors give us 30 to so now I'm going to make a factor tree so let's do Step 2 Step2 all right search find the factors 12 + 30 I step 3 Circle all prime numbers this word right here soon and be multiples it should be factors find the factors that word should be fact my fault find the factors of 12 and 32 by making a factor tree step to find the factors of 12 and 32 and stuff 3 is circle all prime numbers so now we're going 532 all right we know that 4 * 8 gives us 32 all right so are any of these numbers for an 8 a prime number yes or no no so I'm going to make a factor tree for both all right I know with 8 2 x 4 give me a 2 * 4 gives me a right and I know we'll for 2 times 2 gives me 4 so out of both of these factor trees how many prime numbers do you see anyone shot it out how to count or recount on 120 count all the table we had 5 to 4:32 so I'm going to do 2 x 2 which gives us four next 4 * 2 all right cuz we have a 4 right here so now we have one so we know we have to multiply 5 to I'm going to do I'm going to use my product to find the answer which is 4 what times two again which gives us eight which gives us eight then again I'm going to do 8 times two again cuz we have one two three 2 so I'm going to add another two 8 * 2 alright which gives a 16 all right and I'm going to have it Circle all the tools cuz we know we have to multiply 5 to because 32 have five two number to do 16 which gives us 32 all right so now I'm going to Circle V shoes so that you can know we multiply 5 shoes I won three four and five alright now that we multiply doll or two now we got to multiply three all right now we got the * 3 going to do 3203 all right and 32 * 3 is what I know that 3 * 3 is 9 2 * 3 will be 6 or my answer is 96 the LCM is 96 the LCM of 12 and 32 is 96 please write all of this down and that's how we
